It is our pleasure to invite you to participate in Malvern Preparatory School’s fifth annual Empty Bowls Dinner on Monday, January 21 at 7:00 PM.
Tickets for this event are $25 per adult and $15 per child ten and under. Online registration is now closed, but we welcome you to purchase tickets at the door.
What can you expect if you choose to attend Empty Bowls? Empty Bowls is a national organization that has been supporting thousands of these events worldwide since 1990. The way an Empty Bowls event works is simple. The Malvern community creates ceramic bowls, then serves a simple meal of donated soup and bread. Guests choose a bowl to use that day and to keep as a reminder that there are always Empty Bowls in the world. Additional bowls will be on sale at the event, along with silent auction pieces donated by students and area artists. All proceeds from our event are donated to Bethesda Project, an organization that works to reaffirm the dignity of our homeless brothers and sisters in Philadelphia.
Most of our bowls are being created community style - meaning, different artists may work with the bowls at different stages of their creation, and all bowls will are stamped with a logo designed for the event. Many students are helping with this community process as part of their Christian Service for the academic year. Ceramics students are contributing their individual creations.
Some unique bowls created by the Malvern community and some pieces donated by area artists will be presented as silent auction pieces. Please visit
www.mpemptybowls.org for photos and a blog of our progress.
Tickets and Proceeds
The full proceeds from tickets and from the sale of other bowls available at the dinner, including silent auction pieces, will be donated to Bethesda Project. You can learn more about this important provider of housing and services to homeless and poor citizens of Philadelphia at
www.bethesdaproject.org. Malvern sophomores cook and share a dinner with the men from Bethesda Project on the fall service weekends, and, this year, our sophomores are also teaching these residents how to glaze for Empty Bowls. All bowls presented at the event will be tagged with information about this great cause, making them wonderful and meaningful gifts.
Last year’s Empty Bowls was a remarkable success, as our guests’ generosity enabled us to make a $10,000 donation to Bethesda Project. Our fifth annual event is taking place on Martin Luther King Day, a designated national day of service. In the spirit of service that is so important to Malvern’s mission of caritas, please make plans to join us for Empty Bowls 2013. Please order your tickets online or contact kplows@malvernprep.org with questions or for more information.
We are looking forward to seeing you at Empty Bowls 2013!
