The Upper School

Academic Highlights Malvern offers 15 Advanced Placement courses and has a rigorous Honors Program. In the last three years, 28 seniors have been named National Merit Scholarship recipients. Over the past seven years, Malvern students have enrolled in every Ivy League college or university. One-hundred percent of students are accepted into college; ninety percent to their first choice.

Graduation Requirements

To graduate from Malvern Preparatory School, a student must successfully complete the following specific course areas:

 • Theology 3 1/2 units • Social Studies 2 units
 • English 4 units • Mod. Language 2 units
 • Health 1/2 unit • Science 2 units
 • Mathematics 3 units • Music/Art 1 unit
 • Physical Ed. 1 unit • Computer Sci. 1/2 unit

In addition to the required courses, elective courses are offered.  Students are required to take six major courses each year; with the possible exception of those students taking two or more A.P. courses.  No student may take less than five courses, unless approved by the Dean of the Upper School. 

Courses
Honors Courses: In order to be considered for Honors, a student must have completed the prerequisites with an “A” average and be recommended by the teacher.  In order to remain in Honors, a student must have a “B”or better average and be recommended by the teacher.

A.P. Courses: In order to be considered for A.P. level courses, a student must have a score of 1100 in the critical reading and the mathematics sections of the PSAT/SAT, a G.P.A. of 3.0, a 3.4 in subject field, and the recommendations of the teacher and Department Chair.  All students enrolled in A.P. courses are required to take the A.P. exam.
