Junior Ring Mass and Reception - December 1

The Junior Ring Mass and Reception will be held on Monday, December 1 at 7:00 p.m.  All juniors and their families are invited and encouraged to attend. Mass will be held in the Chapel followed by a reception in Stewart Hall. All juniors, whether or not they have ordered rings, will receive a pin of recognition during the Mass.

Best Nest Christmas Stocking Stuffing - December 2

The Mothers' Club will be stuffing the Best Nest Christmas Stockings on Tuesday, December 2 at 6:30 p.m. in Stewart Hall. The stockings will be distributed to the Best Nest children when Malvern Prep hosts the annual Christmas party in their honor on Saturday December 13. College Financial Aid Program - December 2

On December 2, the Counseling Department will host a College Financial Aid Program. David Hoy, Director of Financial Aid at Haverford College, will be our guest speaker. The program will be held in the Duffy Center beginning at 7:00 p.m.

Mothers’ Club Christmas Tea - December 3

112408_Snowflake.gifThe annual Mothers’ Club Christmas Tea will be held on December 3 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in Stewart Hall.112408_TeaOrnam.jpg Come as you are for a few minutes or linger for the whole afternoon! Share a cup of tea or coffee and light refreshments with other Malvern Moms and buy some tickets for the ever-popular raffle. Do some shopping in the Campus Store! It’s a great way to take a break during the hectic Christmas season. Please see the attached invitation for more information.

An important part of this annual gathering is our collection of donated Christmas presents for needy children and their parents under the care of Best Nest. We encourage each Malvern Mom to bring along a gift item. Please see the attached wish list.

Christmas Ornament Now on Sale at the Campus Store!

08Ornament125Px.jpgThe annual Christmas Ornament has arrived in the Campus Store! This year’s ornament is Our Mother of Good Counsel Chapel in the Spring. It is a limited edition hand painted ornament. Cost is $20.00. Geri DiBiase, the artist who designed the ornament will be at the Mother’s Club Tea on December 3 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. to sign and date the ornaments. Looking for other gift ideas?  Be sure to check out the many great selections at the Campus Store.

Morning at Malvern - December 3

Morning at Malvern Preview Day, 8:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 3, provides a two-hour inside look at Malvern during the course of a regular school day for parents and their sons. Morning at Malvern includes classroom visits, tour of campus, and a question and answer session. Do you know a young man who would benefit from a Malvern education? Please encourage him to join us!

Moms in Touch Prayer Group - December 3

The Malvern "Moms in Touch" prayer group will meet on Wednesday, December 3 at 8:30 a.m. in Our Mother of Good Counsel Chapel. A prayer request box is available in the chapel. All moms are welcome.

St. Monica Service Weekend – December 4-7

Drivers Needed for Service Day - December 5

The School is in need of drivers for the last Service Day for sophomores and juniors on December 5. Parent volunteers move over 100 students to 10-15 different sites on this day. The time commitment is minimal, about an hour from 8:15-9:15 a.m. and again from 1:00-2:00 p.m. If you have the desire to be a part of this worthwhile program, and to model to our sons the value of service, please consider volunteering your time to this program. Entrance Exam for 6th through 10th Grades – December 6

Malvern will offer an entrance exam for grades 6 – 10 Saturday, December 6, from 8:30 a.m. to noon in Carney Hall. If you know a young man who would benefit from the Malvern Prep Experience but has not yet begun the admissions process, please have sign up for the exam. Freshman Parent Social - December 6

Empty Bowls Tickets on Sale Now - Support the Bethesda Project Through the Arts!

Empty Bowls is a national organization that has been supporting thousands of events worldwide since 1990. Tickets are $25 and include a selection of one bowl, a soup dinner and admission to the Silent Auction and Sales Gallery at the event, which will be held in Stewart Hall on December 12 at 7:00 p.m. All proceeds will be donated to the Bethesda Project. Mothers' Club NYC Trip - Save the Date - May 6, 2009

The Mothers' Club will again sponsor their yearly NYC trip on Wed., May 6, 2009. This year's show is South Pacific. Tickets will go on sale after the New Year, so please keep watching the Weekly for details. No reservations can be accepted before then. We have 100 tickets, and they will go fast, so please make sure to send your order as soon as possible after the notice in the newsletter. Malvern Stock Gurus on NBC 10 today at 5:00 p.m.
Tracy Davidson, NBC10 anchor, will be doing a segment today during the 5:00 p.m. hour featuring a Malvern team that is participating in the statewide Stock Market Game.

The freshman team of Jake Follman, Michael Buysse, Gus Carlin, Mike Manta, David Srinivasan, Connor McGlynn and William Kacergis are currently ranked FIRST in the state after nine weeks of the 10-week game. Even in this bear market, these boys have managed to make a profit of over $400,000 by using an investment strategy focusing on buying short fund mutual funds. The students are part of the School’s Stock Market Club, moderated by economics teacher John Ostick.

First Quarter Honor Roll
Malvern Preparatory School is pleased to announce its Honor Roll students for the first quarter. At the end of each quarter, Malvern Prep recognizes students who are excelling academically.  Students attaining Distinguished Honors received a 4.0 G.P.A. or better. First Honors is awarded to students receiving a 3.5 to 3.99 G.P.A., and Second Honors is awarded to students receiving a 3.0 to 3.49 G.P.A. No student may receive honors with a B- or lower in any course. Please see the attached document for a list of Malvern Prep Honors Students.

This Thanksgiving season, Malvern students, parents, faculty and staff donated nearly 4,000 cans of food and 35 turkeys, which were distributed to St. Casmir Church in Vineland, N.J., and St. Patrick Church in Malvern.

Malvern Rowers Test Sea Legs at Annual Schuylkill Navy Run

Fourteen Malvern rowers competed at the 5 5/8 mile Thanksgiving Schuylkill Navy Run. Malvern freshman Jeremy Gonzalez was the first high school runner across the line. Five Malvern rowers and coach Brandon O'Brien ran under 40 minutes. Former Malvern graduates also running included Matt Benedetto ’08, Brendan McGeehin ’05, Matt McManus ’07, Carl Jablonski ’06, Mark Borgerson ’07, Aaron Martin ’05, Mike Bohs ’08, Sean Stewart ’08, Brandon Hanna ’08, Liam Leyden ’07 and Mike Rawlings ’08.
