Malvern Prep Student Named Diabetes Research Ambassador
March 26, 2008

On February 12, Malvern Prep freshman Cameron Fuller joined other advocates from the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) in Washington to lobby for further research funds for diabetes, and, as a result of that trip, he has been invited to become a member of the JDRF’s Junior Ambassador Program.

As a Junior Ambassador, Fuller will represent JDRF at the Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter events, such as their Walk and Promise Ball. He will speak at events and be available for media interviews. Fuller will also write thank-you notes and accompany JDRF staff to corporate meetings in support of the fundraising efforts of the chapter.

“My trip to Washington made me realize how important JDRF’s mission is, and I am excited to accept this role within an organization I feel very strongly about,” said Fuller.

While in Washington, Fuller joined JDRF members from across the nation to meet with their respective representatives and senators to request support for H.R. 2762, a bill that will reauthorize a special program for type 1 diabetes research. Fuller visited the offices of Representatives Chris Carney, Chaka Fattah, Tim Holden, Paul E. Kanjorski, Patrick Murphy, Todd Russell Platts and Joe Sestak, and Senators Robert Casey, Jr. and Arlen Specter. Fuller, along with other JDRF members, discussed the importance of continued diabetes research funding and shared his personal story of living with type 1 diabetes.

“Cameron is a courageous young man,” said the Rev. James R. Flynn, O.S.A., Malvern Head of School. “We are proud of his leadership in advancing this cause, and our prayers and blessings are with him as he fights this disease and advocates for diabetes research.”
