Malvern celebrated National Library Week last week with a series of faculty readings, including one by English teacher John Bohannon, who read from his just-published collection of poetry, The Barmaids of Tir Na Nog.
Malvern Prep boasts of a number of faculty authors, including Bohannon, whose new book of poems focuses on American life affected by pull of Irish heritage. Bohannon, who has been featured in many poetry anthologies, was dubbed “one of our favorite poets” by The Irish Edition.
Library Week at Malvern also featured readings by faculty authors Tom McGuire and Jim Fry. McGuire, a social studies teacher, read from his latest historical work, The Philadelphia Campaign, Volume II: Germantown and the Roads to Valley Forge. McGuire released The Philadelphia Campaign, Volume I: Brandywine and the Fall of Philadelphia last year. These books describe in stunning detail the pivotal American Revolution campaign of 1777 that resulted in the British capture of Philadelphia. McGuire is considered an expert on the Revolutionary War and has also published Battle of Paoli and The Surprise at Germantown. Fry is a science teacher who has recently published his first book, a children’s tale called Finny and Squirt, about two fish and their run-in with the ocean bully. The book is based on Fry’s passion for marine science.
