On April 26, Malvern Prep hosted its largest social charitable event, the 34th annual Building a Scholastic Heritage (B.A.S.H.), in the O’Neill Sports Center.
With the theme of Beaux Arts B.A.S.H. and the support of the entire Malvern Prep community, the event raised approximately $175,000 for the School. This year, with the opening of the Rev. David J. Duffy, O.S.A. Arts Center, Malvern Prep is “Embracing the Arts” to highlight the success and growth of its arts program. B.A.S.H. continued the theme with a party based on an architectural arts movement.
Pronounced bO-zär'; or bO-zar' in French, the term beaux arts means fine arts. Based on ideas taught at the legendary École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, the ‘Beaux Arts’ style of architecture flourished between 1885 and 1920. After the creation of the Beaux Art tradition festivals celebrating artistic accomplishments were held, culminating in a grand masquerade ball. Their theme asked for creativity and imagination beyond the scope of tamed human minds.
So B.A.S.H. took up the tradition and added its own artistic license and presenting Beaux Arts B.A.S.H. - Malvern’s Blue Period. Artists such as Picasso and Monet both produced works that were suffused in blue at some point in their career, and Malvern Prep is True Blue!
Highlighting the festivities was the live auction, which included a weekend getaway in New York at the Grand Hyatt, a home theatre package worth over $7,000, and a Flyers and Sixers Luxury Box package worth over $7,000.
Said B.A.S.H. Coordinator Judith Campbell, “B.A.S.H was a great event. All of the guests got into the spirit, and blue pride was everywhere! B.A.S.H. is a major volunteer effort and is only successful because of the dedication and hard work of the Malvern families and the faculty and staff.”
