Message from the Director of the Arts

The goal of Malvern Prep’s Arts Department is to provide students with a broad-based understanding of the creative and performing arts. The Arts Curriculum encourages each student to develop his creative talents as he explores the world of art, music, and theatre. As a department, we strive to integrate the visual and performing arts to create an environment that fosters accomplishment through an interdisciplinary approach. Through a variety of courses, students are given the opportunity to create, perform, and study in each of these disciplines. Students are encouraged to exhibit their work not only at the Malvern Arts Events, but also at other venues throughout the communities.

It is through the arts that students begin to understand their own cultural heritage and that of other nationalities. Malvern’s graduates will be well-rounded and culturally diverse young men because of their exposure to the arts.

The Arts Curriculum offers students a wide variety of comprehensive courses covering a wide range of related art disciplines in the areas of visual art, vocal and instrumental music, and theatre. Clubs and programs within the Arts Department include the Music Honor Society (Tri-M), the National Art Honor Society (NAHS), and after-school arts programming for grades 6-12.

Fine Arts at Malvern Prep

IMG_ART_RobMuntz2.jpgThe arts are an important part of life at Malvern and one of the main ingredients in fostering students’ personal, spiritual, and academic development. The arts bridge the gap between creative thinking and academic life and help our students become well-rounded, culturally diverse men.

The Fine Arts curriculum offers students a variety of courses, from visual arts to vocal and instrumental music to theater.

Our students have the opportunity to practice what they learn. They draw, paint, sculpt, and photograph, using both traditional and computer-based tools. We encourage experimentation and help students develop a range of skills for self-expression. Students join music groups such as Modern Jazz Ensemble, Men’s Chorus, Middle School Band and Choir, and Liturgical Music. Malvern also sponsors an active extracurricular theater department that produces two main-stage shows each year.
