Mother’s Day Flower Memorial Donations Due – April 23

Due to the popularity of the poinsettia memorials at Christmas, the Mothers’ Club is offering a Mother’s Day flower memorial to decorate the chapel and other buildings on campus for the Spring Arts Festival. These flowers will then be planted on campus. To help offset the cost of the flowering plants, donations of $7.50 in memory of a loved one are greatly appreciated. The names of those being honored will be displayed in the chapel during the month of May. If you’d like to contribute, please see attached flyer for more information.

Is spring ever going to arrive? It will, especially with the help of the beautiful flowers available to you in our annual Mothers’ Club Flower Sale. Keep in mind that delivery of our plants is only a week before Mother’s Day, and our hanging baskets make wonderful gifts. Flower pickup is on Friday, April 30, at Dougherty Hall. Pick-up will be between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
All orders should be mailed in by April 23. Any unclaimed orders will be donated to the Garden Guild. Please see order form for more information.

Malvern has been touched over and over again by breast cancer. Show your support for your loved ones by joining the Malvern team for the Komen Race for the Cure this Mothers Day. If you and your family are thinking about walking this year, please register by April 25 to make sure your registration is counted to Malvern Preps’ entry in the high school team challenge. Malvern has won the award for the high school with the most participants four of the past five years. Let’s do it again this year! Excursion to Italy-Summer 2011 – Meeting on May 5

From June 21, 2011, through June 29, 2011, Bill Petaccio (Theology teacher) and Mike Cheatle (Latin teacher) will be leading a group of presently enrolled freshmen and sophomores to Italy. There will be an information meeting on Wednesday May 5 at 7:00 p.m. in Stewart Hall. The group will be visiting Florence, Siena, Cortona and Perugia, the Tuscan region, Pompeii, Capri, Rome and the Vatican, among other places. This tour will be run by NETC, a world leader in student travel and a bilingual tour guide will be with our group at all times. Please see the attached flyer for more information.

Malvern-Notre Dame Spring Choral Concert – May 7

The Malvern Men’s Chorus and the Notre Dame Women’s Chorale will present Steve Dobrogosz’s Mass on Friday, May 7 at 7:00 p.m. in the Duffy Arts Center. Admission is free and open to the public. Third Quarter 2009-2010
Malvern Preparatory School is pleased to announce its Honor Roll students for the third quarter. At the end of each quarter, Malvern Prep recognizes students who are excelling academically. Students attaining Distinguished Honors received a 4.0 G.P.A. or better. First Honors is awarded to students receiving a 3.5 to 3.99 G.P.A., and Second Honors is awarded to students receiving a 3.0 to 3.49 G.P.A. Wallace Spencer was a triple-winner, taking first place in the 110-meter hurdles, the 100-meter dash and the 300-meter hurdles to lead the Friars to two victories in the Inter-Ac tri-meet. Brian Leonard took first place in the 400-meter dash and anchored the winning 4x400-meter relay, teaming with John Malick, Ryan Fulmer and Jamie Gentile. Other Malvern winners were Rich D’Ambrosio in the long jump and Mike Bolte in the high jump.

Malvern Rowing Completes Successful, Busy Weekend of Racing – Wins Horvat Trophy for Most Points at Manny Flicks

Malvern Rowing had a successful and busy weekend. The team raced Friday evening and Saturday at Mercer, N.J. at the Interscholastic Sculling Championships in difficult water conditions. Malvern won the Light Double, Varsity Double, Junior Double, and Junior Quad, finishing second in the Varsity Octople and Varsity Quad, losing to a strong club team from New Canaan, Conn. Malvern Rowers competed on Sunday at the 5th and final Manny Flick Regatta in Philadelphia. Malvern won the Novice Quad, Varsity Light Double, both heats of the Varsity Heavy Double, and the Varsity Quad, winning over Roman Catholic. Malvern finished second in the Junior Single and Junior Double. With this success, Malvern secured the 2010 Horvat Trophy for most sculling points at the Manny Flick races. Malvern Students and Parents Compete in Charity Run

Several Malvern students and parents competed in the annual Sunflower 5K Run this past Saturday in Ridley Creek State Park. The race is held in memory of Aimee Willard, a 1992 graduate of the Academy of Notre Dame de Namur, who was murdered in 1996. Proceeds from the run benefitted the Academy of Notre Dame Aimee Willard '92 Scholarship Fund. Paul Stockett '13 and Christian Dambly '13 finished first and second in their age group. Other members of the Malvern community that participated in this event were Mark Dambly, P'13, and Roe and Mark Molloy, P'12'16, Christopher Molloy '16 and Danielle Molloy.
