Christian Service

In addition to classroom work, all students are required to participate in the Christian Service program. Christian Service is a concrete way to put faith into practice. Our Statement of Core Values directs that “members of the Malvern community will respond to a call of service.”  All Malvern Prep students are required to reflect the message of Christ and to live our mission as an Augustinian Catholic school through their service to others.

We strongly believe in our commitment to serve others.  We ask everyone to do Christian Service not community service.  The difference – we follow Christ’s example and work directly with people in need.  Many times we are asked to help with financial donations. We are eager to consider a request as long as the raised fund go directly to people in need.

Major Events: Throughout the school year the community comes together to support specific causes.  Our major events are Malvern C.A.R.E.S. Walk, Thanksgiving Food Drive, Best Nest Gift Drive and Party.

Service Weekends: Malvern has three service weekends for Upper School students during the first semester. These weekends correspond with the senior retreat program dates. The Middle School students will learn and discuss how Christian Service is rooted in the life of Christ, as revealed in Scripture.  They participate in some Christian Service opportunities, but not as part of Service Weekends.

Appalachian Service Project
Seniors may elect to spend a week working on community service projects in Ivanhoe, Virginia or Robbins, Tennessee.   At Robbins, the Malvern volunteers work with Appalachian  Habitat for Humanity in the construction of new homes for the rural poor.   At Ivanhoe, the volunteers work at a variety of community projects including construction, direct service of labor to community residents, and direct service of labor to community agencies.

Interested seniors should contact Rev. Dr. Joseph Oechsle for details and sign-up materials as soon as possible.  We invite parents and  alumni, especially those with expertise in construction, to donate materials and services to assist the Malvern senior volunteers.
