Malvern Preparatory School celebrated its 87th commencement today at Wolfington Plaza on the Chapel lawn. On this refreshingly cool day, the Malvern community paid tribute to the 121 seniors of the Class of 2013, who were lauded for their accomplishments, as well as their overwhelming commitment to brotherhood. In addition, yesterday evening, Malvern eighth graders celebrated their advancement to ninth grade. |

One cannot comprehend the level of danger that would lead a mother to send her child away to ensure his safety. But that is what Grace Sankoh did 12 years ago when she helped her son, Adams Kamara Daramy, flee war-torn Sierra Leone at the age of 6 to seek refuge in the United States. Today, thanks to the support of his classmates and the entire Malvern Prep community, Adams will see his mother for the first time in 12 years. |

Sixth grader Jacob Springer and seventh grader Christian Franck, as blazered members of the world-renowned Philadelphia Boys Choir and Chorale, will be participating in a performance tour of France June 27 to July 5. |

Malvern Rowing continued its successful season at the Philadelphia Scholastic Rowing Association (PSRA) City Championships on Saturday, May 5, winning the Varsity Light Quad, finishing second in Varsity Heavy Quad (in a thriller with Roman Catholic edging out the Friar boat), and finishing third in the JV Single. |

Malvern Alumnus Ryan Nassib Selected in 4th Round of NFL Draft  |

Being selected to play in the NFL is an extremely rare feat. To have two student-athletes from the same school chosen in the same year is ... well, in Malvern's case, it has never happened ... until this year. On April 27, the New York Giants selected former Friar and Syracuse quarterback Ryan Nassib '08 in the 4th round of the NFL Draft. Later in the day, Rob McCabe '09, who starred at linebacker for Georgetown, signed a free agent contract with the Miami Dolphins. |

Five Students Earn National French Awards  |

Five Malvern students scored in the top ten nationally in this year's National French Contest. In Level 2 French, freshman Jaxson Hoey placed sixth nationally; freshman Nick Leasure placed ninth; and freshmen Anthony DelVescovo and Steven Van Ommeren placed tenth. In Level 5 French, senior David Giannella placed tenth nationally. |

Malvern Welcomes New Director of College Counseling  |

Although her official full-time start date is July 1, Emily Buckley Feeney, Malvern's new Director of College Counseling, is already hitting the ground running on a part-time basis in her new role. Feeney, who has strong Malvern ties, is the School's chief strategist and executive for its college counseling program, and is charged with creating a dynamic vision for the program, advising Malvern families through the college selection process and building relationships with college admission offices. |
