Malvern Prep and Area Fire Companies to Remember 9/11 at Memorial Service on Sept. 19 Point Person: Dr. Joe Oechsle, Malvern Faculty and Active Member, NFEC, joechsle@malvernprep.org On Sept. 19 the Malvern community will remember the tragic events of September 11, 2001, and we will remember especially the 343 members of FDNY who perished that day, men who left a legacy of lives well-spent in servant leadership. This memorial service will be the occasion when I on behalf of the Norriton Fire Engine Company of East Norriton will present to the President of the Fordham Preparatory School in the Bronx a check for $10,000 to continue the FDNY-NFEC Scholarship Fund at Fordham Prep for sons and relatives of the 343. Renowned motivational speaker Dr. Kevin Elko to address Malvern Prep on Sept. 19
Dr. Kevin Elko, a nationally renowned motivational speaker and author, will be a special guest speaker at Malvern Preparatory School on Monday, Sept. 19, at 7:00 p.m. in the Duffy Arts Center.
Dr. Elko is one of the most requested inspirational speakers in the country today. In addition to corporate clients, he has consulted for NFL teams like the Philadelphia Eagles, Pittsburgh Steelers, Dallas Cowboys, Miami Dolphins, and New Orleans Saints, as well as the University of Miami, University of Alabama, University of Nebraska, and Rutgers University football teams. Miracle cast and crew are set!After two days of grueling auditions and many hours of thinking and praying, the cast has been selected for Miracle on 34th Street, the fall production of the Malvern Theatre Society. "The students are extremely excited to be part of this classic piece of literature," says Jim Fry, Director of the MTS. A list of the talented group of students working together on this production can be found on the Cast and Crew pages. Miracle on 34th Street will be presented on Nov. 4, 5, 11 and 12. This parents-only event on Sunday, September 18 will begin for Middle School parents at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel and Upper School parents at 2:30 p.m. (9th/10th grade parents in Stewart Hall, 11th/12th grade parents in the Duffy Center). We encourage all parents to take advantage of the opportunity to meet your son's teachers and follow his schedule. Each class will meet for 10 minutes and will follow a Day 1 schedule. Parents are invited to attend the annual Headmaster's Reception on Sunday, Sept. 18, from 4:30 to 6:30 pm in the O'Neill Sports Center. This adults only event will immediately follow Back to School Day. RSVP is not required.

College Essay Writing Workshops will be held on Thursday nights, Sept. 15 & 29, Oct. 6, 20 & 27, and Nov. 3, from 6-7:30 p.m. in the Library computer lab. Seniors are asked to email Mr. Bohannon by noon of that day to let him know that they will attend.
Lacrosse Meeting – September 21 Point Person: David Metzbower, Head Lacrosse Coach
 There will be a meeting for all upper school lacrosse players and parents on Wednesday, September 21, at 7 pm in the O’Neil Center. This will be a mandatory meeting for at least one parent to attend. We will be discussing the expectations, off-season training, schedule and booster responsibilities for the coming year. We will also be discussing next summer club and program options.

 Malvern Prep will be hosting our eleventh annual 5-Mile walk on Sunday, October 2, 2011. The walk is called MALVERN C.A.R.E.S. which stands for Cancer & Aids Reach Everyone Somehow. We hope this outing will provide us an opportunity for all of our families to come together to help surpass our total of $25,500.00 from last year. Malvern’s Global Exchange Program is in its fourth year and again we are looking for students interested in going abroad to Panama, Spain or Australia for a four-week period. So far, 54 students have participated and their experiences have been enriching, fun and life changing. We are also looking for families who would like to host a foreign exchange student from any of the three Augustinian schools we partner with. There will be an informational night for interested parents and students on Tuesday, October 4, at 7 pm in the Choral Room upstairs at the Duffy Center. Water Polo: Malvern Prep 11, Hill 10 Adam Spangenberg’s goal with 1:26 remaining in the 4th quarter was the game winner for Malvern on Sept. 7. Malvern was trailing 10-8 in the final period but Spangenberg and MP Salinas goals tied the game. Cole Steidle came up huge in goal in the final minutes to help Malvern preserve the victory. Salinas finished with 5 goals and Spangenberg 3 goals. Malvern is 3-1 in non-league competition.
Water Polo: Malvern Prep 8, Pennridge HS 5
Kyle Aceto, Matt Cornell and Jeff Hagen each scored two goals for Malvern Prep in the non-league win over the Rams of Pennridge on Sept. 9. Malvern goalie, Cole Steidle allowed only one goal and made 9 saves in 3 quarters of play. Malvern Prep is now 4-1 in non-league action.
