Nate Lautar ’98 named Varsity Wrestling Coach

A new head coach will be at the helm when Malvern Prep’s Varsity Wrestling team takes to the mat this winter.

Longtime assistant coach Nate Lautar, a 1998 Malvern graduate, takes over as head coach for the Friars.  Lautar enjoyed an outstanding wrestling career at Malvern. A four-year Varsity starter, he compiled a career record of 110-20, including an impressive 62-1 in Inter-Ac competition.  Honors included a state championship in the 125-lb. weight class as well as being named a National Prep All-American, three-time All Inter-Ac, and four-time All Chester County and All Main Line. He went on to wrestle for Franklin & Marshall University.

In 2003, Lautar helped start a youth wrestling club called Tiger Elite in Marple Township, which eventually spawned into the Malvern Youth Wrestling Club that now meets at Malvern Prep. A number of Malvern’s top wrestlers, as well as many notable athletes from around the region, have learned the sport through Tiger Elite.

“We are thrilled to promote Nate to head wrestling coach,” said Athletic Director Kurt Ruch.  “As an assistant coach, he has shown the ability to motivate our student-athletes to perform at a very high level.  We expect that to continue as he takes over our varsity wrestling program.”
