The Strategic Planning Oversight Committee met on February 1, 2012 to discuss the tactics and strategies related to the 2011-2016 Strategic Vision. The Committee is pleased with the planning process to date and looks forward to providing more information to the Malvern Community at the Town Hall Meeting on March 6th at 7:00 p.m.
The latest developments are as follows:
Student Life:
- Intramurals are continuing to become an important aspect of Malvern's extra-curricular programs. After following the success of the fall intramural program, we are pleased to announce that there are 14 teams and 107 students involved with winter handball.
Personnel:
- The Finance Committee of the Board of Trustees has been working closely with the Oversight Committee to finalize a retirement plan for all faculty and staff.
- Additionally, the Personnel Committee will be working with Christian Talbot and the Curriculum Committee to enhance the teacher evaluation system.
College Counseling:
- The Counseling Department has enrolled in the National Student Clearinghouse. By doing so, the Counseling Department will receive important data related to transfer rates and graduation rates. The information obtained will allow Malvern the opportunity to compare itself to the national average and will provide insight to the department in regards to student success and future college placements.
Curriculum:
- The Curriculum Coordinator search is almost complete. The finalists were interviewed and a decision should be made in the next week or two.
Financial Stability:
- With the support of the Board of Trustees' Finance Committee, the budget has been approved for the 2012-2013 School Year.
- The Development Office will be working a plan that will focus endowment and will seek guidance from the Board of Trustees on the timing of Malvern's next capital campaign.

Upon the completion of the Strategic Plan, an Oversight Committee was created in order to manage the tactical elements of the plan moving forward. This committee works in tandem with the Leadership and Administration to help discuss, implement and fulfill the mission of the School and the 2011-2016 Vision. This vision will elevate the school to a new level by:
- Preparing our students to meet and exceed the challenges of a global society, driven by our unique Augustinian, Catholic, Independent mission
- Building upon our culture of family, faculty, administration, alumni and global community through Christian Service
- Providing an all-male education that balances rigorous academics, extracurricular activities, spiritual development and global citizenship
- Attracting and retaining high-caliber faculty and providing them with professional development opportunities appropriate for global educators
- Refining our academic and college counseling program to provide our students with the structure and tools necessary to identify and gain admittance to the most selective colleges and universities
- Ensuring the survival and success of Malvern through financial discipline and growth of endowment
- Communicating the School’s distinct Augustinian, Catholic, Independent identity within the marketplace
Happily, the implementation of the plan has been tremendously successful to date. And, each tactic completed helps us reach the outcomes listed above. To date, we have been able to do the following:
- Curriculum:
- The Academic Excellence report has been posted online for faculty review and revision. This document supports all aspects of the curriculum and is reviewed annually by each department. Having the document online, in its entirety, will help facilitate the creation of inter-disciplinary projects and collaborative learning
- The Curriculum Coordinator position has been posted and the interviews for the position will begin by the beginning of February. The goal is to have a new person in place by April 1, 2012
- Student Life:
- The intramurals program has been expanded. This past fall, Soccer was added as an intramural option for the students. In addition, students were elected as officers of the overall intramural program to ensure the continued organization of the program and to offer additional leadership opportunities for our students.
- Additionally, the Strength and Conditioning Center has purchased equipment that will enable the younger students to more readily use this center. To help facilitate those students who are new to the fitness training program, beginner classes were held this past fall and will continue throughout the year.
- Another element of the Student Life goal relates to our Christian Service program. A tactic has been completed, which provides additional administrative support to the program. This part-time administrative position has been filled and the person began on January 23.
- Marketing/Identity:
- In order to solidify Malvern Prep's brand and identity, a Director of Strategic Marketing will be hired in the near future. The job has been posted and interviews will begin next week.
- College Counseling:
- The Counseling Department in collaboration with volunteers from the Strategic Planning committee have developed a thoughtful mission statement for their college counseling effort.
