In the 1940s,
The Friar’s Lantern was the student newspaper of Malvern Preparatory School, covering many of the same topics the current
Black Friar Chronicle does today, including campus events and sports. In January, several decades since its last printed edition,
The Friar’s Lantern returned to Malvern as the school’s first-ever online student publication.

“Our mission is to provide the school and surrounding community with a traditional, yet informative, ever-changing student run site,” says Brian McDonough ’12, founder and editor-in-chief of
The Lantern. “This site is a tool to express yourself and to encourage others to utilize this opportunity to become involved in the community and the school.”
“We believe that this site is the future of student communications at Malvern and would like everyone to be a part of it,” said McDonough. “I would like to thank all editors, contributors, and friends of the Malvern Prep community for making this first edition possible.”
Joining McDonough on the Lantern’s masthead are Arts editors Eli Polnerow ’12 and Jon Heisler ’12; Lifestyle editor Kyle Julicher ’13; News editors Eddie Morris ’12 and Jake Glancy ’12; Pop Culture editors Mike Sassano ’12 and Mac Walsh ’13; and Sports editors Jake Stokes ’12 and Marty Farrell ’13.
Frank Luzi, Malvern’s Director of Communications, and
Jamie Wasson, English Teacher, serve as advisors.
