Six Malvern Prep students who are members of the Anti-Human Trafficking Club volunteered at the 4th annual Dress for a Good Cause event at Westtown School on Friday, March 23. The event was a prom dress sale to benefit survivors of human trafficking.

 

Dress for a Good Cause events turn gently worn prom dresses, wedding and party finery, picnic sundresses and unwanted jewelry into aid for survivors of human trafficking. The first Dress for a Good Cause was dreamed up in 2009 by Carol and Kathryn Metzker, and sponsored and produced by the Rotary Club of West Chester Downtown at space contributed by Westtown School. Thanks to the generosity of hundreds of girls, women and men, all proceeds from Dress for a Good Cause have helped fund projects for shelters that help children and women who have survived modern-day slavery in the U.S. and overseas. Projects include a vehicle for rescue operations and transportation to medical appointments and home, furniture, a small herd of cows and a bio-gas cooking system, a roof, and others.

 

At last Friday's Dress for a Good Cause, participants had a wonderful time and raised enough money to purchase solar lamps for the Punarnawa Girls’ Center in India, and interpreter services and transportation passes for a local survivors’ center.
