Family, friends and fellow Friars were in attendance on Monday, May 7, as 21 Malvern Prep Middle Schoolers were inducted into the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS). Each of these students has demonstrated leadership, character, scholarship and service, while maintaining a 3.5 grade-point average with First Honors by the end of the last school year.
The new inductees are eighth graders Jarrett Donaghy, Michael Flanagan, Alexander Galilea, Brent Greeley, Ian Murray, William Phillips, Aaron Salinas, Kevin Smyth and Cameron Williams, along with seventh graders T. Nathan Albergo, Andrew Aprahamian, Brian Boyle, William Coyle, Kiran Cullen, Zachary DeStefano, Jadon Diehl, Turner Emery, Edward Harpstead, Kyle Hegarty, Erik Kolar and Alexander Reber. They join current eighth grade NJHS members Zachariah Chan, James Faunce, Alexander Freund, Jaxson Hoey, Alexander Mankowski, Joseph Markferding, Tait McGlinn, Jake Mullan and Coleman Thomas.
More than just an honor roll, the National Junior Honor Society serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, Character and Citizenship. These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since its beginning in 1929.
William Coyle and Cameron Williams delivered speeches at ceremony on the topics of Character and Leadership. "Character will write your future," Coyle said. "Responsibility, leadership, citizenship and faith in God are aspects of your character."
"Dedication, integrity, openness and creativity are what it takes to be a leader," Williams said. "One of the only consistent things in our lives is change. Being open to change, and making sure that it is change for the better, is a mark of true leadership."
