Five Malvern Prep Juniors Earn Scholarship and Achievement Awards
Five members of the Class of 2013 were honored on Monday at Malvern’s Junior Class Awards ceremony in Our Mother of Good Counsel Chapel.
 
Patrick Joseph Giampietro of Phoenixville won the Michael P. Walsh ’59 Scholarship and Achievement Award for his academic diligence and his commitment to family and activities. The achievement award and silver plate was given in memory of two Malvern Prep alumni and brothers, Michael P. ’59 and Brian G. Walsh ‘63.
 
Julian Thomas Gaasche of Collegeville was awarded the Norman and Dorothy McMahon Award, bestowed annually to a junior “who has shown love and commitment to family and Malvern Prep.”
 
Martin L. Farrell of Drexel Hill was presented the Eleanor “Bunky” Mullray Scholarship, given in loving memory of “Bunky” Mullray P’84’87’94, wife of T. Daniel Mullray ’62 and respected past president of the Malvern Prep Mothers’ Club.
 
Timothy R. Valente of Malvern earned the Thomas F. Swift Award, given annually to a junior who is diligent and has been involved during his Upper School career.
 
Michael Paul Salinas of Spring City was named the Basil B. Sullivan ’51 Scholarship recipient. The scholarship is awarded to a junior “who has demonstrated academic merit, participates in activities and/or athletics, and demonstrates a loyalty to Malvern Prep. The scholarship is given by the Sullivan family and friends in memory of Basil B. Sullivan, history teacher extraordinaire and friend to hundreds of Malvern Prep alumni."
 
Also at Monday's ceremony, the Sims Family Scholarship Award, bestowed annually for "persistence, dedication, involvement and loyalty to Malvern Prep,” was presented to Mr. Paul Hornsleth to help endow the Erika Hornsleth Augustinian Scholarship Fund.
