Fran Oschell '21 Drafted by Los Angeles Angels

On Tuesday, July 16, Fran Oschell ’21 was selected by the Los Angeles Angels in the 12th round of the 2024 Major League Baseball draft. Oschell is the 17th Friar to be drafted since 2010 and the 8th since 2020. A pitcher for Duke University, Oschell recorded a 6.94 ERA in 22 appearances this year. He and his Blue Devil teammates finished the season as ACC Champions.

Mr. Jim Stewart ’86, Head of Athletics, remarked on his accomplishments, "Like many of our alums who are competing at the collegiate level, Fran Oschell has maximized his abilities and perfected his game to get to this point. We are very excited to follow Fran's path from Duke to the LA Angels!"

Mr. Fred Hilliard, Head Varsity Baseball Coach added, "Fran personified everything we want in a Malvern Baseball player both in how great he was as a player but more importantly in how he carried himself off the field and as an ambassador for Malvern Prep. He was a joy to coach here, and I've enjoyed following his success at Duke and look forward to watching him in his journey through the minor leagues with the Angels. So happy for him and the entire Oschell family, it couldn't happen to a better young man and a better family."

Congratulations, Fran! The Malvern Prep Community wishes you the best of luck as you continue your career with the Angels!
