Malvern Prep Rowing delivered a strong performance at the 2026 USRowing Youth National Championships, sending four crews to Nathan Benderson Park and returning home with a national title, a top-20 finish, and four crews ranked among the nation's best.
The highlight of the weekend came in the Men's Youth Quadruple Sculls of Will Bentley '26, Rory Coleman '27, Jack Arbogast '26, and Brendan Schuck '26, where Malvern established itself as the crew to beat from the opening race of the regatta. The Friars posted the fastest time in Thursday's 29-boat time trial, crossing the line in 5:48.120 to earn the top seed entering semifinal competition.
Malvern continued its momentum on Friday, winning its semifinal in 6:16.920 to advance to Sunday's Grand Final. Facing an elite field that included Pocock, Conshohocken, Belen Jesuit, Maritime Rowing Club, St. Mark's, Redwood Scullers, and Ridgewood Crew, the Friars once again delivered. Leading at the halfway mark, Malvern held off a late charge from Pocock to win the national championship in 6:13.140 and claim the Men's Youth 4x title.
The Friars also competed in the Men's Youth Double Sculls. Racing in a 27-boat field, Malvern finished 26th in the time trial before rebounding in the D Final. The crew of Nick Mejzak '26 and Finn Kennedy '26 produced its best race of the regatta, winning the D Final in 7:29.770 to secure a 25th-place national finish.
In the Men's U17 Quadruple Sculls, Malvern narrowly missed advancement to the semifinal round after placing 18th in the 32-boat time trial. The crew responded impressively in Saturday's C Final, taking command early and winning the race in 6:51.220. The performance earned the Friars a 17th-place national finish.
Malvern's Men's U17 Double Sculls crew also represented the program on the national stage. After qualifying for the C Final through the opening time trial, the crew competed against a deep national field and finished 24th overall in the country.
The USRowing Youth National Championships bring together the fastest junior crews in the United States, with qualification earned through regional championship regattas. Over four days of racing, Malvern crews competed against many of the nation's premier scholastic and club programs and finished the weekend with a national championship and four top-25 national results.
