Malvern Prep Celebrates Historic Triple Championship Sweep in Baseball, Rowing, and Track & Field

In honor of an unprecedented spring sports season, Malvern Prep students, faculty, and staff gathered today to celebrate the championship wins for three spring sports teams: Baseball, Rowing, and Track and Field.

On Monday, May 19, Malvern Prep’s Track & Field team, led by Coach Mike Koenig, secured its PAISAA State Championship title. This was the team’s first PAISAA championship since 2014 in what was by far the most competitive PAISAA final in the history of the event, as evidenced by the 12 meet records that were broken. The Friars overcame the Mid Atlantic Prep League champions, Hill School, the Friends League champions, George School, and most importantly, 3-time defending PAISAA and Inter-Ac outdoor champions, Episcopal Academy.

On Saturday, May 24, Malvern Prep (32-5) won its third consecutive PAISAA baseball title with a 6-1 win over Episcopal Academy (18-9-1). Led by Coach Freddy Hilliard, this was the Friars' ninth PAISAA title in the last 12 seasons.

Also on Saturday, May 24, Malvern Prep Rowing’s Varsity Quad won the SRAA (Scholastic Rowing Association of America) National Championship. This win comes on the heels of an undefeated regular season, the Philadelphia City Championship, and winning the Stotesbury Regatta.

“Being able to celebrate one state or national championship this spring would be amazing, but to be able to celebrate championship wins for three of our spring sports teams is truly remarkable. These wins demonstrate the commitment of the scholar athletes and coaching staff - we are so proud of everything our scholar athletes have accomplished this season,” shared Mr. Jim Stewart Jr. ’86, Head of Athletics.
