Malvern Prep Indoor Track and Field Captures Program’s First PAISAA State Championship

On Sunday, February 15, the Malvern Prep Indoor Track & Field team captured its first-ever PAISAA State Championship, scoring 110 points to finish 25 points ahead of The Haverford School and secure the team title.

“I couldn’t be prouder of this group of guys for bringing home the PAISAA Championship,” said Head Varsity Indoor Track and Field Coach Mike Koenig. “We had multiple key injuries and illnesses coming into this meet, but the guys badly wanted this title and were willing to sacrifice individual accomplishments in favor of doing two, three, and even four events to score maximum team points.”

Juniors Gunner Benedix ’27 and Jalen Bowman ’27 led the Friars as the team’s top scorers.

Benedix delivered a standout all-around performance, placing third in the 60-meter hurdles (8.41), third in the pole vault (13 feet), second in the long jump (21 feet, 7.25 inches), and fourth in the high jump (5 feet, 10 inches).

Bowman turned in a dominant sprint performance, winning the 60-meter dash in 6.80 seconds, finishing second in the 200 meters in 21.64 seconds, and helping the 4x200-meter relay to a runner-up finish in 1:30.78. His 6.80 ranks as the second-fastest 60-meter time in school history, and his 21.64 in the 200 meters broke his own school record, a mark that now ranks third in Pennsylvania.

Max Ortega ’27 won the shot put with a throw of 48 feet, 0.5 inches, while Ryan Woerner captured the triple jump title with a leap of 45 feet, 1 inch.

The 4x200-meter relay team of Bowman, Ryder Yoder ’29, Pierce Nevins ’27, and Kaiden Jacobs ’28 set a new school record with their 1:30.78 performance.

Securing the first PAISAA Championship in program history with resilience and a team-first mindset, Malvern Prep turned a challenging lead-up into a milestone victory!

Congratulations!
