Malvern Prep Soccer Coach Susan Barr Receives Excellence in Coaching Award

Malvern Prep Athletics proudly announces that Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer recently recognized Head Varsity Soccer Coach Susan Barr as this year’s recipient of the Mike Barr (no relation) Excellence in Coaching Award. The award is presented to an individual who has demonstrated a lifetime of dedication to coaching and educating within the youth soccer community. In addition to coaching at Malvern Prep, Coach Barr also coaches at Penn Fusion Academy in West Chester, PA.

Starting in the fall of 2019, Coach Barr became the first female to coach a varsity sport at Malvern. Since taking the helm of the program, she has brought Malvern Prep Soccer to the forefront of competition in the highly competitive Inter-Ac League. Mr. Jim Stewart ’86, Head of Athletics, remarked, “Coach Barr is one of the greatest examples we have of living out Malvern’s Mission. She is always putting the athletes first. Developing not just great players but great people.” Each year, under Coach Barr’s leadership, the team continues to improve, and many of the team’s top players continue to play soccer at the collegiate level.

Coach Barr holds a USSF ‘A’ National License, the highest accreditation for a soccer coach. “With her level of expertise, experience, and certifications, Coach Barr could coach at any level. We are so lucky to have her coaching at Malvern.” Stewart said. In addition to her extensive coaching experience, Barr was a standout soccer player at Cornell University, where she was a 4-year starter, Ivy League Champion (’89), and an All-Ivy Team Selection (’88 & ’89).

Congratulations to Coach Barr on her accomplishments. Thank you for your continued commitment to Malvern Prep Athletics!
