Gary Duda '88 P'26 Receives The Michael F.  Mayock Distinguished Teacher-Coach Award

On May 17, the school community gathered in Malvern's Quad to celebrate Gary Duda '88 P'26, Varsity Head Coach and Malvern Faculty Member, who received the Mayock Distinguished Teacher-Coach Award.

Duda has been a Mathematics teacher for over 27 years in both the Middle and Upper Schools. Over the years he has assisted in coaching basketball and baseball. For the last 21 years, he has served as Malvern’s Varsity Golf Coach - winning 5 Inter-Ac Championships and 2 PAISAA Championships.

Duda joins four prior recipients of The Mayock Award at Malvern Prep; Swimming & Diving Coach, Paul Hornsleth (1998); Basketball Coach, John DeAngelis (2005); Cross Country & Track Coach, Michael Koenig (2011); and Swimming/Diving & Water Polo Coach, Jay Schiller (2017).

"I am humbled to receive this award and to represent Malvern and the four gentlemen who previously received this award. They are outstanding representatives of Malvern Prep," said Duda.

The annual Mayock Award aims to recognize those individuals who impart the highest level of integrity, professionalism, and concern for the total education of the student-athletes at the Inter-Ac league’s nine schools – Chestnut Hill Academy, Episcopal Academy, Germantown Academy, Haverford School, Malvern Prep, Academy of Notre Dame, Agnes Irwin School, The Baldwin School, and Penn Charter. Recipients are chosen by a unanimous vote of the athletic director and headmaster of the eligible schools each year.

Congratulations, Gary!
