On Wednesday, April 30, Malvern Prep transformed its campus to host the fourth annual Caritas Carnival. In partnership with Sow Good Now, the school hosted over 200 children from area elementary schools (St Agnes, St. Laurentius, St. Peter the Apostle, St. Patrick's, and St. Laurence) who would otherwise not be able to enjoy a field trip with their classmates.
Kelly Catania P’21’23, Director of Christian Service, and Mary Nassib P’08’11’14, Founder of Sow Good Now, led the event planning and execution.
“The Caritas Carnival idea surfaced post-COVID when I realized the entire nonprofit landscape was dramatically changing. What better way than to share our beautiful campus with children from schools who, by no means, can offer a fun-filled day,” explains Catania.
All Upper School students, faculty, and staff participate as volunteers to make the day a success! They are joined by Malvern Prep parents and members of the Bill Atkinson Service Corps. The event touches all corners of campus and includes activities like bounce houses, arts & crafts, choo-choo train, face painting, petting zoo, and various sports. The visiting children were also treated to lunch and carnival treats like snow cones, popcorn, and cotton candy.
“From the joyful faces at the petting zoo, the choo-choo train, and the hayride, to the delicious lunch, hot dogs, cotton candy, and face painting — every moment was a beautiful reflection of God's love working through our children. It truly was a special day to be part of the Malvern Family,” shares Catania.
