Alumni Awards Ceremony
October 24, 2024
Please join us as we kick off the 2024 Homecoming and Alumni Reunion Weekend with the Athletic Hall of Fame Induction. Each year Malvern Prep and the Alumni Association go through a structured process to select individuals for the Alumni Awards. Each award is discussed and voted on by committees made up of alumni representatives and school administrators. Kindly RSVP for the Alumni Awards Ceremony using the form below. This year, we are proud to be honoring the following Malvern Prep alumni.
The Athletic Hall of Fame
The Athletic Hall of Fame was designed to honor and recognize those individuals who have made outstanding contributions to Malvern Prep Athletics and have brought recognition, honor, and excellence to the Malvern Prep Athletic Program.
Christopher Campanale '04 - Ice Hockey
Chris was a standout ice hockey player during his time at Malvern Prep. He played a key role in the team's success and set a solid foundation for the program’s future. As a four-year starter for the Friars, Chris’s work ethic and determination were unmatched, setting a standard for the Malvern Prep Ice Hockey program for years to come.
Chris’s career was filled with memorable highlights. He was named the league’s Most Valuable Player in 2003 and was the leading scorer in 2004, earning 1st team All-League honors. The culmination of Chris's career was clinching four Flyers Cup Championships during his four years, a record that still stands and inspires current players.
After high school, Chris spent two seasons playing junior hockey in the Eastern Junior Hockey League with the Springfield Jr. Falcons and the Vermont Glades. He then continued his career at American International College, where he served as team captain during both his junior and senior years. Upon graduation, Chris signed a professional contract with the Evansville Icemen of the Central Hockey League, playing three seasons before retiring.
Now, as the hockey director for the Lancaster Firebirds, Chris dedicates his time to developing young talent and working as a skills coach for local players. He resides in Chester Springs with his wife, Kristin, and their four children—Chase, Khloe, Connor, and Kira.
Philip Gosselin '07 - Baseball and Basketball
Phil was a standout athlete at Malvern Prep and a vital member of the Baseball and Basketball programs. From the start, it was clear that he would leave a lasting mark on the baseball program, while his presence on the basketball team elevated the performance of everyone around him. Phil was considered a “Swiss Army Knife” for Basketball and Baseball–an effective utility guy, ultimately leading his teams to success. At Malvern Prep, he received many honors and awards, including being named team MVP and winning the MVP award at the Tom Heinkel Tournament.
Phil continued his athletic career at the University of Virginia, where he played for three years and was named two-time first-team all-ACC. The highlight of his college career was playing in UVA’s first appearance in the College World Series in 2009. In 2010, Phil was drafted by the Atlanta Braves and made his MLB debut in 2013. He went on to play ten seasons in the big leagues, including two with the Philadelphia Phillies in 2019 and 2020.
Phil is married to Dr. Rachel Jennings, and they are expecting a baby boy (a future Friar) in January. Phil is currently a special assignment analyst in the operations department of the Phillies organization.
William "Millsy" Mills, PhD, LAT, ATC, P'19 - Athletic Trainer and Coach
William “Millsy” Mills arrived on Malvern Prep’s campus in 1987, following his time at Interboro High School (‘83) and Penn State University (‘86). He was hired as the assistant Junior Varsity Lacrosse coach. During that time, Millsy recognized the need for a full-time Athletic Trainer on Malvern Prep’s campus. He began pursuing his education in athletic training at West Chester University, ultimately earning a PhD in Athletic Training from Rocky Mountain University of Health Professionals in 2023.
Throughout his 37-year career at Malvern Prep, Millsy has not only led the Athletic Training Department but has also worked with the NFL, professional lacrosse leagues, the USA Men's Lacrosse team, and the Summer X Games. His influence has shaped the lives of many student-athletes. The Philadelphia athletic community considers Bill Mills to be one of the premier athletic trainers in the area.
Today, Millsy takes pride in being a loving husband, father, and pop-pop to four grandchildren.
John Rogers '85 - Football and Lacrosse
John made a lasting impact on Malvern Prep’s Football and Lacrosse programs, excelling both on the field and as a leader. A passionate competitor, John led by example and was captain of both teams during his senior year. His talent and leadership earned him numerous accolades, including Player of the Week by the prestigious Maxwell Football Club. In 1984, John played a pivotal role in securing the Inter-Ac Football title after a 4-year lull, a significant achievement in the School's sports history.
After graduating from Malvern Prep, John continued his athletic journey at Franklin & Marshall College, where he continued to play football and lacrosse. He received F&M’s Edward Garrigues 25 Outstanding Senior Male Athlete Award in 1989, the highest honor in F&M Athletics, and was inducted into the F&M’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 2000.
John has three sons (Sean, Kevin, and Brett) who all played lacrosse in college. He currently lives in Purcellville, VA with his fiancée, Heidi Raymer.
