Reports to: Director of High School or Middle School productions
Department: Upper School and Middle School
Status: Part-Time after school and weekends
Job Summary
Applies creative thinking and depth of knowledge to design, execute, and foster a student centered theatre program that is in support of Malvern Prep’s ambitious aspirations. Supports the school’s mission by providing students with the opportunity to gain an understanding of the necessary skills needed to be a stage wise actor, or theatre technician. Supports both the creative team and student actors and technicians. Works collaboratively with a dedicated team in a professional manner in creating the costume plot for the Upper School drama, Musical, and Middle School musical. Designs, executes, and develops the costumes for each high school and middle school team. Supports the Director of the HS or MS show in the many logistics of the production to ensure a smooth creative process and that all goals are met in a timely fashion.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent experience) in costume design, fashion, theater, education, or related field
- Evidence of a commitment to a team-based environment
- Current (dated within a year) clearances
Essential Duties
- Work collaboratively with the Directors of MTS
- Design the costume plot for two high school shows and one middle school production
- Run wardrobe throughout the dress rehearsals and productions
- Supervise a small team of students in the design process and costume execution
- Coordinate parent volunteers, as needed.
- Communicate with the parents in coordinating any items that the student may have to bring in as part of their costume
- Properly clean costumes after each production
- Works with the students to restock all cleaned costumes at the end of each production
- Aids in proper supervision which may include before, during, and after rehearsals and performances
- Model and develop a healthy and respectful environment between team members and students
- Support students in a way that builds confidence
- Regularly communicates (ie. team meetings, informal check ins, etc.with the team to ensure all goals are being met
Competencies Required
- Ability to design, sew, and alter costumes for each of the School’s three shows
- Excellent interpersonal and intrapersonal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Good time management skills
- Proficiency in technology (i.e. Microsoft, google, social media, etc.)
- Team player
