Position: Head of Character Development & Wellness
Reports to: Associate Head of School
Job Summary:
Malvern Preparatory School seeks a highly visible, mission-driven educational leader to serve as Head of Character Development and Wellness. Deeply rooted in our Augustinian Catholic tradition, this senior leadership role is central to fostering a positive, aspirational school culture grounded in accountability, spirituality, wellness, learning, and healthy relationships.
The Head of Character Development and Wellness will help advance Malvern Prep’s mission by supporting the formation of the whole student through a collaborative, distributed leadership model that serves all students in the Middle and Upper Schools.
Reporting to the Associate Head of School, the Head of Character Development and Wellness provides strategic oversight and day-to-day leadership for key student-facing and student-support functions, including:
- Student Academy Leaders
- Director of School Counseling
- School Nurse
- Attendance Coordinator
- Transportation Lead
Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree preferred, not required
- Demonstrated commitment to Catholic and Augustinian education
- Proven experience as a leader of adults and students in a school setting
- Strong understanding of adolescent development and student wellness
- Experience with restorative practices and values-based discipline
- Excellent communication, relationship-building, and leadership skills
- Must have experience with Google Suite
- 3+ prior experience as administrative experience
- Must have current (dated within a year) clearances
Essential Duties:
- Provide leadership that advances Malvern Prep’s Augustinian mission by cultivating a values-driven school climate where accountability, spirituality, wellness, and healthy relationships thrive.
- Serve as a visible and engaged member of the St. Ambrose Team, actively monitoring and addressing matters related to school culture, student behavior, and community norms.
- Promote a culture of belonging and mutual respect across the community.
- Oversee and support comprehensive student wellness systems, including counseling, health services, attendance, and extended care.
- Collaborate with faculty, staff, parents, and administrators to support student growth, resilience, and well-being.
- Lead and support the Student Academy Leader team and other direct reports by setting clear vision, strategy, and goals.
- Foster professional growth, collaboration, and shared accountability among team members.
- Guide the development, implementation, and ongoing evaluation of restorative action plans.
- Ensure behavioral expectations are clearly communicated and consistently applied across the Middle and Upper Schools.
- Balance compassion with accountability while maintaining high expectations for student conduct.
- Builds and maintains a professional rapport with a broad audience – alumni, students, parents, all other staff, and external contacts
