9th Graders Volunteer with Ryan's Case for Smiles

On Tuesday, March 10, 2020, the entire Freshman class volunteered with Ryan's Case for Smiles. They made 180 pillowcases and 9 coping boxes for children and their families who are struggling with cancer.
"We would like to give a big shoutout to Susie Berlacher [English Teacher], her mother-in-law Cindy Berlacher, Events and Outreach Coordinator for Ryan's Case for Smiles and the volunteers for giving our students this opportunity to help others," said Sue Giordani, 9th Grade Academy Leader and English Teacher.

"Because of school's like Malvern's involvement in their local community, we are able to continue and further our mission," shared Cindy Berlacher.

Throughout the day, the freshman class was split into nine rotating groups: sewing pillowcases, pinning pillowcases, ironing pillowcases, creating cards for kids, learning stress reduction techniques, taking a walk around campus to relieve their stress, creating coping boxes for siblings, and a general information group about Ryan's Case for Smiles with a journaling opportunity.

Reflecting on the experience, freshman Jack O'Neill shared, "It has been a great experience. It feels really good to help people who need it."
