6th Grade U.S. History studies American Civil War

Quarantine won't keep our students from learning and engaging in virtual discussions. Recently, Mr. Steve Swope's 6th Grade U.S. History classes studied the American Civil War, which included reading Lincoln's Last Days, a book about the end of the war, the conspiracy to kill Lincoln, and the hunt for his assassins that followed.
During the lesson, the boys studied the causes of the war, economic conditions, Union advantages, slavery, Lincoln's 1860 election, and the events that followed.

Following the lesson, the boys researched key battles, learned about the economic differences between the North and the South, deciphered code-like systems that were used during the war, had an open class discussion about the book, and even analyzed what a Southern victory could have looked like for the future of our county ... and the world.
