  • Eighth Grade Students Launch Project Focused on Assisting Syrian Refugees

Have you ever wanted to help but didn't know how? On Wednesday, February 15, eighth graders launched their Syrian Refugee Project that will take them on a journey of raising awareness, funds and donations for those refugees living in the Nea Kavala refugee camp in Greece.

During the launch, attendees learned about the Syrian Refugee Crisis, how the project aligns with Malvern's Vision and heard from Kayra Martinez, founder of Love Without Borders, and Amanda Levinson, co-founder of NeedsList. The students will be working closely with Martinez and Levinson to identify items that are most needed at the Nea Kavala refugee camp. They will then build a NeedsList and share it with the Malvern community.

In addition to yesterday's launch, Malvern hosted an art show featuring paintings, drawings and homemade jewelry from the children at the refugee camp. Martinez spoke to the crowd about her work and thanked everyone for attending.
