    Water Polo Competes in Eastern Prep Water Polo Tournament
    November 4, 2018
    The Friars opened the 2018 Eastern Prep Water Polo Tournament at Baldwin School with a last-minute loss to St. Benedict's Prep (9-8). Jake Caulfield made 17 saves during that game. In game 2, the Friars rebounded and won 18-4 over William Penn Charter. Jack Cassidy sparked the Friars with seven goals and three drawn ejections, while Brennan Robinson had three goals, four steals, three blocks, and four assists. Owen Preston, Ryan Cochran, and Chris Krein each had two goals. Eric Yablonski, Dan Ward, and Sean Hughes had one point each. In game 3 the Friars fell to Mount Saint Joseph's (MD) 11-7.

    Water Polo 14, Friends Central 2
    November 1, 2018
    The Friars ended their regular season with an on-the-road win against Friends Central on Thursday, November 1. Jake Caulfield held the opponent scoreless for three quarters and stopped 9 shots, as well as scoring two goals for the Friars. The defense made 17 steals during the game. On offense, the Friars had 10 different players score, led by Ryan Cochran (three goals), Brennan Robinson (two goals), Jack Cassidy (two goals, four assists), and Jake Caulfield (two goals). The Friars will compete this weekend (November 3-4) at the Eastern Prep Water Polo Championship tournament.

    The Friars won their second league match of the season at William Penn Charter School on Tuesday, October 29. Brennan Robinson's four goals and goalie Jake Caulfied's 16 saves led the team. Eric Yablonski scored three goals, Ryan Cochran had two, and Dan Ward had one goal for the Friars' offense. The defense had 18 steals.

    Rugby Finishes Second in Rugby 7s State Championship
    October 30, 2018
    The Rugby 7s team had a successful finish to their season taking runner-up to Bishop Shanahan in the PA Rugby State Championship final held at LaSalle High School over the weekend. The Friars entered the knockout round of the tournament as the fourth seed after finishing pool play at 2-0-1, with a tied result to Shanahan who moved on as the third seed.

    In the semi-final game, the Friars defeated Hempfield (#1 seed) to advance to the finals against Bishop Shanahan. The team will compete again in Rugby 7s in May at the High School Rugby 7s Championships. In 2017 the Friars won the championship and in 2018 they took second.

    The Friars were barely outscored by The Haverford School in the 2018 PAISSA Tournament at Gulph Mills Country Club on Monday, October 29. Matt Civitella won medalist honors with a 1-over par score of 71. John Updike tied for second with Sam Walker (The Haverford School), posting a 2-over par score of 72. Andrew Curran chipped in with an 82 and Keller Mulhern rounded out the team scoring with an 85.

    Middle School Swimming Wins Grade School Swimming and Diving Meet

    Congratulations to our Middle School Swim Team on winning the Grade School Swimming and Diving Meet on Sunday, October 28. The Friars scored 346 points to beat St. Francis of Assisi (278 points) and 10 other schools. Nolan Murphy was the 4th-6th-grade high point winner with six gold medals. Logan Turley took home five gold medals and a silver medal, while Connor Cross won three gold medals. In the 7th-8th grade category, Sheldon Tang won three gold medals, a silver medal, and two top-six medals.

    Rowing Competes at Head of the Schuylkill Regatta
    October 28, 2018
    Malvern rowers had a good day on the water, winning two Novice events and finishing with four singles in the top ten of the Junior and Novice Single Events. The Friars will begin running season next week until Thanksgiving, competing in the annual Turkey Trot Running Race on Thanksgiving morning.
