On Saturday, April 6th, 2019, join Malvern Prep and Villa Maria Academy High School students to host our 2nd annual st@MP Diversity Conference!
St. Augustine is a good companion for diversity because of his own life. His restless heart carried him off to explore the world in an effort to find his true self. This conference is intended to create the opportunity to join peers in learning about themselves while exploring important issues of equity and inclusion.
st@MP will be a meaningful day filled with opportunities to connect with others on a deeper level while exploring important issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion. The theme for this year's Conference is st@MP: Aware! Care! Dare! The student conference leaders selected this theme because they feel self-awareness is the stepping stone to understanding another person's experience, thereby enabling that person to take action.
The day will begin with a keynote address from Dr. Kathleen E. Walls, a clinical psychologist and author. Following the keynote address, students will engage in activities and workshop sessions focused on discussions about how to "open our lens wider" by making a commitment to speaking Truth and recognizing our own biases.
The conference is open to all high school students. In order to encourage the culture of speaking Truth within our communities, we strongly recommend at least one moderator or teacher accompany the students from each organization. This will allow those moderators and/or teachers to continue these valuable conversations back in their own communities.
We look forward to taking a personal and communal journey as we all sit at the table together to discover ourselves and our community.
