Rosengarten Ranch

What once stood as the Eighth Grade Garden on the southeast corner of campus has blossomed into something extraordinary—the Rosengarten Ranch.

This transformation honors an important piece of our history. The name "Rosengarten" celebrates Harry Rosengarten, the original proprietor of the Warren Avenue estate that, when sold to the Augustinian Province in 1922, laid the foundation for what would become Malvern Preparatory School.

Today, this revitalized space continues our tradition of growth and innovation while preserving our deep historical roots.

Winter greenhouse seedlings started in January and February play a foundational role in the success of Rosengarten Ranch's growing season. These early plantings bridge the gap between winter dormancy and spring abundance, setting the stage for a productive and thriving landscape.

By the time these seedlings move outdoors, they've developed sufficient hardiness to withstand variable spring conditions. Their established root systems help them quickly adapt to their new environment, accessing soil nutrients and moisture more efficiently than direct-sown seeds. This translates to earlier harvests, more robust plants, and greater overall yields.

Under the leadership of Dr. Jim Fry, the Rosengarten Ranch has undergone a remarkable transformation. With the hard work and dedicated efforts of volunteers who have worked tirelessly to clean, clear, and build this growing space.

As the land was cleared, Dr. Fry organized specialized teams to focus on different aspects of the Ranch's development. From building garden beds to rehabbing fences, the volunteers and their work are the heart of the Ranch.

The Rosengarten Ranch at Malvern Preparatory School offers a remarkable diversity of fruits and vegetables, serving as both an educational resource and a sustainable food source for the school community and Sanctuary Farms. The Ranch exemplifies hands-on agricultural education while providing fresh produce throughout the growing seasons.

As part of Malvern Prep's celebration of Earth Week a Spring Spruce-Up took place at the Rosengarten Ranch. The Spring Spruce-Up not only prepared the Ranch for its productive season ahead but also fostered a sense of community and shared environmental stewardship.

Participants worked together on several essential tasks to prepare the space for spring planting including preparing the garden beds, clearing away debris, enriching the soil, all with the goal of ensuring the space is ready for the upcoming spring planting season.
